Using Different Mediums to Color Digis

A few weeks ago we had a request to see what it might look like if one digi was colored in different ways. We are all about trying to fulfill the requests that come our way and this was a fun and easy one to do! Today, courtesy of several designers, we can show you all the different ways our designers can color digis. The digi is courtesy of our November sponsor Dragonslair Designs, and as you will see I asked the designers to use the same digi to give you an accurate comparison. Keep reading to find out how you can win some digis from Dragonslair Designs.

A Paper-Pieced Digi
Erin used Kraft colored cardstock as a base for the bear, and added patterned papers by Imaginisce, Kaisercraft and Ki Memories. She then added a bit of Distress Ink in Pumice Stone to the edges before layering it on a white 6x6 card. Sentiment stamp by Hero Arts.

Digi colored with Stampin' Up markers

Penny colored our digi with Stampin' Up Markers and added Eyelet Outlet snowflake brads for accent. The papers are DCVW Holiday assortment. She used Stickles to highlight the bear's hat, scarf, and snowflakes.

Digi colored with watercolor pencils
Brenda used a blender pen to soften the pencil strokes. The green cardstock was embossed with the Polka-Dot Cuttlebug embossing folder, and the top border was punched with a MS border punch.

Digi colored using Copics
Deanne used only three Copics (E33, E29, R29) to color this image. She also used some flock and glitter to give the teddy bear some fun fuzziness.

Digi colored using flocking & Stickles
Kerri altered this CD with some DCWV paper she embossed with her Cuttlebug Snowflakes Embossing folder, trim, and beading. She decided to "color" her image with some Studio G gray and white flocking, Diamond Stickles, and Blueberry Ice Stickles to create more texture in her image.

Now that you have seen the samples, tell us about your favorite medium for coloring digis. If you don't have any experience coloring them, tell us which example you liked best. Leave a comment and you will qualify to win 4 free digis from Dragonslair Designs. The deadline for entry is November 15th!

I like to color my digi images with copics. With my printer ink if I use anything water based and happen to touch the lines with it the ink bleeds which isn't pretty ;) Since I love stickles, I have to be very careful on digi images and most times end up using a needle to "push" the stickles closer to the lines of the image.

I really like using colored pencils. I don't have much luck with any wet medium like markers or paint. I have a nice pencil set and it works for me :)

I usually use Prismacolor pencils and OMS to do my coloring on my images. I have done some coloring with Stickles on some Christmas cards and really like that look too.

I've never colored or used a digi, but I'm partial to the softness of the paper-piecing and flocked bear. Of course, I've been wanting to play with some flocking lately, anyhow but it still has the cuddly feel that a teddy bear makes me think of.

Thank you for sharing these techniques!

These all look amazing! I've only ever printed of digi designs onto acaetate to use as overlays, so no colouring involved there!! My fave here is Erins paper-piecing & i will be having a go at it myself very soon!! TFS!

These look great. I probably use my watercolour pencil crayons most of the time for colouring, with mineral spirits. Sometimes markers.
Thank you for reminding me to use my flocking!
Might try that on a reindeer stamp I have here.
