Challenge Me Tuesday: Fussy Cutting ( with video tutorial)

**Next week we're taking you far far away from fussy cutting...We want to see what you can do without patterned paper! Send your creations to practicalscrapperslayouts@gmail.com .We'd prefer if you sent us a blog link to your project, and sent submissions for the challenge with CMT in the subject line.

Today's Challenge Me Tuesday technique focuses on fussy cutting. Fussy cutting is the process of meticulously cutting out or into a design from a piece of patterned paper ( or stamped image) in order to embellish, or to incorporate elements as you would when cutting into a background paper. We have a tutorial from Practical Scrapper Bev on fussy cutting backgrounds at the end of this post.

The technique can be used for layouts and cards alike, and is a great way to add layers and interest to a project. I enjoy cutting out the odd design, but it's the "meticulous" part that probably keeps me from being great at this technique. Here are some great examples to inspire:

Debbie's technique is all about fussy cutting, and it makes for stunning pages!

Practical Scrapper Audrey hand cut the branches of flowers from a patterned paper to make a unique statement on her page.

Be sure to read on!!

Bonnie Friesen cut the mouse and flower, bird, bunnies and fairies from Graphic 45's Spring Garden papers to embellish her page.

 Michelle Hernandez

It seems from all our entires that the most popular thing to fussy cut is flowers. You can see how much impact those layered blossoms can have on Michelle's layout, and how a select few on a page can speak volumes of their own:

Now how about those cards?

Practical Scrapper Christine fussy cut these diamonds from the Glowing Line from Authentique.  She curled up the bottoms to give them some flare.  She also used a sentiment from Momenta.

Kristy Smith created this fun Halloween card by fussy cutting the house, ghosts and moon and adding them to her background layer. Aren't the vellum ghosts perfect?

Kristie Maynard trimmed her watercoloured stamp and cardstock balloons to create this sweet card complete with crochet cotton strings.

Happy Tuesday!

I hope this Tutorial about fussy cuts on background papers helps you visualize where and how to start a layout when it has beautiful prints on the paper, especially when you'd like to use them as part of your layout rather than cover them all up with photos and accents.
Here is the finished layout from the video. After doing the fussy cuts .. it was easy to add the remaining accents to finish the layout. Punched banner with bakers twine, brads, title, stickers, strips, sewing, cluster and buttons.
Here are 2 other fussy cut layouts to show you how the same technique can be used.
This one has the same extra background paper added under the fussy cut section to mount photos on.

On this one... the photos were slotted behind the fussy cutting without background paper.
So now that you understand the technique of fussy cuts and know how and where to use it .. I would love to see you use it on your layouts.
Happy Scrapping,
 Bev
