Crayon Art With Kerri!

Hi Practical Scrapper fans!  Kerri here today to share what inspired me recently.  I work part-time as therapeutic staff support and just last week at summer school one of the class aides was looking for an arts and crafts projects for the kids to do.  She shared with us crayon art images.  Now, some of you may be asking what is crayon art...basically it is the art of melting crayons.

Here was the image ( and where you can find it) that she shared with us that inspired my creation...

I decided to take it one step further and create a scrapbook layout out of it.  Now for those of you who are all about the acid free for your projects, this may not be something to attempt with one of those photos from a professional photographer that you paid a lot of money for and only have one copy left.  After doing some research and found that Crayola has posted that their crayons are not a guarantee acid free and that most colors have a mid pH level in them.  I on the other hand went for it because mine was going in a frame and it was a photo that I took, have on a disk and hard drive, so it will remain until the hard drive crashes or I lose my disc.

I did not leave my crayons in the paper nor did I leave them whole. I used broken pieces like the photo below and glued them on with a dab of Beacon's around my Creative Memories Heart...the paper is on here just for demo.  Then you just take your hair dryer and blow over the crayons.  it really only takes about 20 seconds for them to start melting.  I don't advise using your heat tool for embossing You don't have as much control over blowing the melted wax.  And make sure your cover your floor well if you do this inside...I was scraping crayon from my tile floor because it blows a lot more than you expect :)

Here are some close-up shots..

You will also notice some etched hearts in the melted crayon.  I used the etching tool that comes in those foil etching projects that my kids get for $1 at Joanns to create all those hearts.

and the little white hearts are just punched out with my mini Studio g heart punch that I got for 97 cents!

Here's the finished in the frame...
What I love best about this project was the simplicity...only one sheet of 12x12 white cardstock and the few left over scraps I used to cut my title and hearts from.  AND...the kids helped create this one gluing the crayons on and taking turns blowing it!

Thanks for stopping in !
