Personalizing a Printable

Hi!

Kristy MacKeen here. I hope everyone is settling into the holiday season. We are just starting in my house. As a rule growing up, we didn't decorate for Christmas until after Thanksgiving, and since we had such a late Thanksgiving here in the US, I'm really thrown off in terms of getting ready for Christmas. Is it really just 3 weeks away?!?

Hoping to get inspired into doing a little decorating, I turned to Pinterest. I was excited to find so many free printables available. When I saw this pin, I knew it was the one I wanted to work with. I loved the reindeer and the saying "Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?", and the burlap background. But just printing and framing it seemed a little like cheating to me... So I decided to add a few extra "personal" touches to it to make it a little more "mine".

First, I needed to find a frame. Of course, I couldn't find the perfect frame in my stash of frames in the basement. But I did find this 5"x5" frame, a wedding gift I had never used (shhhh)...

My original thought was to cut down the printable, which was designed to be a 5"x7" print. Instead, I thought, what if I took the mesh out of the frame. How would that work?!? Turns out it makes an 8x8 frame. Woohoo! That just made my job a little easier - no cutting. :-)
Grabbing some 8x8 green paper from my stash, I added some gold mist splatters.

From there, it was simply a matter of adding a few more personal touches to the printable, like a running stitch around the edge, some rhinestones and wooden embellishments...and of course a red glitter brad for Rudolph's nose.

And here it is, all framed up. A new decoration for my house this year!

I hope I have inspired you to take advantage of the free printables available all over the internet, and making them your own.
