10 Things - Transparencies

Today's 10 Things is all about that stuff we can't see, and using it with the stuff we can. Vellum, transparencies and clear embellishments got you stumped? Have a look at these fantastic ideas!

 1. Trap some good stuff.
Practical Scrapper Charissa stitched a transparency onto her layout to create a pocket for confetti and glitter for a fun and interactive element.

2. Cut it out.
Practical Scrapper Linda used a key cut from a transparency sheet as an embellishment. She also used clear buttons here and there on the layout.

3. Create a false window.
Practical Scrapper Karen used permanent ink to stamp a bracket frame on the transparency and then embossed the flowers for her sophisticated sympathy card.

 4. Die cut it.
Practical Scrapper Lisa die cut her butterfly from transparency using her Cricut. She added some paint strokes to the back of the transparency and layered it on top of  patterned butterflies giving the wings  a textured and glossy look.

5.Colour it.
Practical Scrapper Lanette created a stained glass card using a transparency and gel pens.

6. Make it a base.
Practical Scrapper Sarah used a transparency to create a clear card.  By placing layers on both the inside and the outside of the card, she was able to create a fun, 3D effect on a clean and simple card.

7. Help them fly. Practical Scrapper Kenya used transparency scraps to give the butterflies a floating effect.

8. Layer it up.
Practical Scrapper Kelly Jean fussy-cut onsies from a Hambly Screen Prints transparency and backed them with patterned paper to create a banner for her card.

9. Add some shine.
Practical Scrapper Leslii Wagner used clear bottle cap embellishments on each of the outer circles of her hand drawn flower.

10. Stamp it.
Practical Scrapper Erin stamped her butterflies onto vellum using Staz On, and then coloured the reverse side using Copic Markers.

Focus: Transparencies

I cut up my transparency, and made this..

..and this.

Practical Scrappers is all about using the supplies you already have. Even the ones you've forgotten about!

This transparency had certainly been pushed aside. I remembered it suddenly after thinking about this challenge for a few days. I’m so glad that I was challenged to use it, because on my own I don't think I would have. It was a Narratives by Karen Russell, 12x12 sheet. It’s kind of old-school paper, but the challenge is to use what I already have. And just because some of my materials might be 5 years old, doesn’t mean my pages have to look like they happened 5 years ago. Our design team demonstrates our expectation that your layouts will still be fun, trendy, and fresh. It’s not about using up your old supplies the “old” way. It’s about being practically innovative.

Christine took her transparency to her Cuttlebug to bring some texture to her sweet page about friends. Lovin the texture. She also created a card base with a transparency sheet, and so did Jessica – both are gorgeous. Check out Jessica’s blog to see her mini album using transparency as well as another card!

I was searching for an image of this transparency that I’d used, and I found a page within Creative Imaginations of Karen Russell’s creations using transparencies. Many of these are very doable and all of them are inspiring! I love using powerful words on layouts, and transparencies make that really easy.

Speaking of words, Amanda Muirhead used a template on her transparency to cut out her shape and then doodled on it to create a beautiful background for her page.

Catherine submitted this card to this week’s challenge which features a 3 dimensional butterfly. Not only does she share her final result, she explains how to do it yourself! -Beautiful!

And if you’re really into texture AND you want to be wowed, check out Carole Janson. . Her layout, and some of her other projects, take transparencies to the next level.

If you haven’t checked out the projects from our design team, you won’t be disappointed. Scroll down for their inspiration and application. Enjoy your supplies!

Transparency Challenge - Cricut/Cuttlebug Projects

Today we have projects from our Cricut/Cuttlebug Design Team using transparencies. As I said yesterday - we have had an amazing week of projects - today is no exception!

I have enjoyed working with the transparencies more than I expected.

For both of my projects today I ran my transparency through the Cuttlebug. It works beautifully for that! On my layout I also made my flower on the Cricut with a pattern I read about from Sandy Windsor. It wasn't too hard and was fun to put together!

On a fun note-Angela & I are both in the picture on my layout. I'm in the purple and she's the short haired red-head (we have one person in between us). I wish we were next to each other because it would be a great picture for the sidebar :).

This Week's Challenge: Transparencies

This week's challenge is to use transparencies-anything that is clear will work! For the layout above I used a transparency I have had for years (the letters in the background). This layout was a challenge because the colors were way out of my comfort zone. I guess that is why it took me so long to use it! Have fun working with clear items this week and we look forward to seeing what you create! The deadline for entry is 5:00 ET on Friday!
