On Trend: Chalkboard

One of the fun trends in the paper crafting world right now is...Chalkboard.  You can achieve this look with black cardstock and white chalk or paint or ink.  But there are many companies that are incorporating this technique into their papers, stickers and embellishments these days!

We hope you enjoy what the Design Team created for you today!  Make sure to pin the projects if you love them and leave some love for the designers on their blogs!  We love to hear from our readers!

Practical Scrapper Wendi Robinson used some Crate chalkboard paper and embellies along with using a white pen to write on the black cardstock.

Practical Scrapper Charity used paper from Kaiser Craft and Recollections to make this "Just Because" card.

Practical Scrapper Mary Pat used some Core'dinations cardstock and scored and sanded it. She then stamped and heat embossed various sentiments.

Practical Scrapper Cathy used a collection from Elle's Studio and a white chalk marker from Zig to create the Hexagons along with some Marshmallow Glimmer Mist!

Practical Scrapper Marcia Dehn-Nix used Chalkboard from We R Memory Keepers for this layout.

Practical Scrapper Karen chose to mimic the chalkboard look by sanding Core'dinations paper and adding a few smudges to give the appearance of chalk dust haze.

Practical Scrapper Lisa used Basic Grey's Fresh Cut collection and the chalk sentiments from Studio Calico to document her focus this month for her One Word 2014: Choose album.

Practical Scrapper Charissa used a chalkboard cards from Studio Calico and some Fancy Pants Chalk Tape to add interest to her page about her little princess.

Practical Scrapper Kim Ryden used a Chalkboard sticker by Pebbles on this fun "Hello, hi" card.

10 Things - Transparencies

Today's 10 Things is all about that stuff we can't see, and using it with the stuff we can. Vellum, transparencies and clear embellishments got you stumped? Have a look at these fantastic ideas!

 1. Trap some good stuff.
Practical Scrapper Charissa stitched a transparency onto her layout to create a pocket for confetti and glitter for a fun and interactive element.

2. Cut it out.
Practical Scrapper Linda used a key cut from a transparency sheet as an embellishment. She also used clear buttons here and there on the layout.

3. Create a false window.
Practical Scrapper Karen used permanent ink to stamp a bracket frame on the transparency and then embossed the flowers for her sophisticated sympathy card.

 4. Die cut it.
Practical Scrapper Lisa die cut her butterfly from transparency using her Cricut. She added some paint strokes to the back of the transparency and layered it on top of  patterned butterflies giving the wings  a textured and glossy look.

5.Colour it.
Practical Scrapper Lanette created a stained glass card using a transparency and gel pens.

6. Make it a base.
Practical Scrapper Sarah used a transparency to create a clear card.  By placing layers on both the inside and the outside of the card, she was able to create a fun, 3D effect on a clean and simple card.

7. Help them fly. Practical Scrapper Kenya used transparency scraps to give the butterflies a floating effect.

8. Layer it up.
Practical Scrapper Kelly Jean fussy-cut onsies from a Hambly Screen Prints transparency and backed them with patterned paper to create a banner for her card.

9. Add some shine.
Practical Scrapper Leslii Wagner used clear bottle cap embellishments on each of the outer circles of her hand drawn flower.

10. Stamp it.
Practical Scrapper Erin stamped her butterflies onto vellum using Staz On, and then coloured the reverse side using Copic Markers.

Button Wreath

Hi, I’m Practical Scrapper, Karen and today I'm sharing a fun button wreath that could be a tree ornament, card embellishment, or a great gift topper for a crafty friend.

Supplies:

  12 buttons (½ - ¾ in)
  18 in wire (26 gauge)
  wire cutters & scissors
ribbon, gems, holly, charms, jingle bells etc
  hot glue gun

Directions:
1.arrange your buttons in a pleasing manner varying color and size
2. thread one button onto the wire leaving 5 in of wire at the end
3. thread wire through the second hole pulling slowly to avoid the wire twisting and getting kinks; stop frequently to readjust the wire. (this is the most difficult part to get right)
4. thread another button and slide it down to the previous button (buttons should overlap slightly alternating over & under)
5. After you have threaded all 12 buttons on the wire, form a circle and thread the wire back through the first button’s hole. (it will have 2 pieces of wire passing through the holes)
6. Both wires should be on the back of the project so you can twist the wire ends together to secure the wreath.
7. Create a bow for the wreath and use the wire ends to secure it.
8. Attach an embellishment (jingle bell, gem, or charm) in the center of the bow (attach with a hot glue gun if your wire ends are not long enough.)
9. Twist wire ends together, trim off excess, and discreetly bend wire ends down on the back of the wreath.
10. Thread a piece of ribbon or floss through the top button to hang.
As you can see, it is easy to get carried away once you try making these!  Here is how our display looked for our Christmas Sale for charity.
  Happy Holidays!
