Thanksgiving platter turned wall decor

I'm seriously loving fall in the midwest this year! My oldest is almost five and is asking questions about leaves changing colors, the cooler weather, etc. as only a child can which has lead to some simple seasonal discussions. It also inspired my project for today.

I wanted something that could be interchanged based on our seasonal discussions, and maybe even saved for future use. There's twine threaded through the platter's handles and then a piece of corrugated cardstock is glued onto them. I'm planning to just trim off the twine and save the centerpiece and pinecones for next year. New twine (or maybe some shimmery yarn?) and this piece is almost ready for winter.

Decorating the platter was easy enough once the twine and cardstock were in place. A little inking on some chipboard letters and floral department leaves and I was almost done! My favorite part of the entire project is the 3D pinecones. I'd cut them using my Silhouette Cameo for a since discarded project, but they worked perfectly as embellishments on this little home decor piece. How cute are they?! I am so glad that I saved them. They were fairly easy to assemble too, once I found this tutorial on the Silhouette Blog.

10 Things You Can Do With: Twine

What did we ever do before baker's twine emerged on the
scrapbooking scene?
Thread, string, and plain floss are fine, but nothing says fun like a bit of colourful twine.
Stumped on how to get it on your projects? Here are 10 ideas to get you started:

1. Bundle it.
Practical Scrapper Erin tied scraps of twine together and then glued them onto her layout.

2. Go Spiral.
Practical Scrapper Shir Benovich made a custom embellishment by gluing twine in a spiral on her Jewish New Year card (Shana Tova in Hebrew).

3. Make a Title.
Practical Scrapper Leslii used Bakers Twine and watered down white glue to make the title
"Smile" for this layout.

4. Wrap it.
Practical Scrapper Julie used bakers twine to alter her photo.

 5. Frame it.
Practical Scrapper Karen used bakers twine to make a frame with brads to secure the corners.

6.Go floral.
Practical Leila used bakers twine in her handmade flower

7. Button It.
Practical Scrapper Jenny used baker's twine to adhere the buttons to her layout.

8. Criss cross it.
Practical Scrapper Liz used baker's twine to create the diagonal crosses on the ice cream cone.

 9. Tag it.
Practical Scrapper Erin used floss to accent tags on her page.

 10. Make argyle.
Practical Scrapper Christine made a fun argyle pattern using patterned paper and twine.

Happy Tuesday!

Twineology:101

Hey there!  Laura here with ya one on one today with my favorite
embellishment....TWINE!!  It's trendy, it's hot, and no wonder,
because it's FUN!!  And guess what....I might just have some to
give away today too!!  Check at the bottom of this post after
you check this out:

This stacking box project is a great favor or decor for a wedding,
shower, anniversary, birthday....any occasion really!  And it gets
dressed up from a basic pink and brown cardstock and a simple
stacking box pattern by using simple techniques with twine.
(FYI--the box is just a square....vary the sizes to fit your needs,
and score at 1" to make the box sides).  And this particularly
yummy twine is from Trendy Twine--"Chocolate Cupcake"...
yep, like I said....yummy!...lol.

Here are the close ups of how I used the twine:

First, threaded thru pretty lace:

For the middle,  I used eyelets (and the holes in the punch) to lace
twine thru and then tie a bow....here's the close up of the "before":

On the top layer I simply threaded the twine thru the punch
and tied a simple bow:

Just a few simple examples of how much twine can add to a project...
it is my "go to" something, when I want to add some pizazz to any of
my crafting projects!

How do you use twine?  Or do you?  Let us know!!

And now we were talking a prize...and here's how you get a chance
to win this:
