It's a Hoot!

Good morning!

This is Practical Scrapper Becci here to share with you this sweet owl themed baby shower banner to share with you this morning. I knew that I wanted to go with fall colors - also very "boy" like orange, and blue. I added a primary color of grey, knowing that the nursery will be grey and blue and owl themed.

When I create a custom banner, I think about the theme of the party or room, the colors that might go with it - usually my own choice of what I feel for the person. I round up the papers and think of the general idea then I set to work. I treat each banner panel as though it is it's own creation. For each of the letters of the baby's name, I cut them out of cream card stock and watercolored each one.

For this banner panel I sewed the punched circles (from the next banner panel over) together into a string and attached them - I love a little banner within a banner.

Here I stamped and embossed a little owl in two of the circles, peeking out.

Here I wove strips of the patterned paper together for the background, and also added dots and star sequins.

Here I used a star stamp (from my 6 year old daughter's craft bin), and I embossed it with white Zing powder.

For this last panel, I wanted to use the EXACT owl as the stamp. So I drew it in Illustrator, imported each part of the owl (eyes, belly, nose) into Silhouette and cut each piece. He's so cute.

And as a bonus, I also made an owl taggie blanket to go with this gift:

For this little guy, I made my own patter for him. the face details are all hand sewn.

Thanks for coming over today to check out my owl-licious creations, it was a hoot!

Stencils and Stamps

Hello!  Audrey here to share my latest obsession. Lately I have been stalking Julie Balzer's blog. I love what she does with stencils! She just released coordinating stencil and stamp kits. I started simple and got myself this stencil and stamp:

stencil:

(I bought them from BlueMoon Scrapbooking where they have TONS of stencils and stamps!)

I have been playing around with them, but one of the easiest ways I found to use this was just to take a thin black pen and trace some of the circles in the stencil.

The simple outlines add just a little more interest to the page, and the way I arranged them helps your eye move up the page from the lower left to the top right corner.

I LOVE LOVE this Basic Grey PB&J collection!!!!  I used some die cuts that came with the line and a few of the chipboard pieces (the navy bars at the top and bottom of the page, which I machine stitched over).  I cut the chevron paper to make little banners and splattered some navy ink as well! (Page designed based on a sketch from Kristine Davidson).

And here is another page I did using a few of the stamps. You can see on the bottom right of the photo where I layered a stamp and a stencil (which I inked to make the yellow star).  I really need to play with them more to feel more free when using them!

Thanks for stopping by today!!!  You can see more fun layouts on my BLOG!

Baby Layouts

Whether your layouts are made of "sugar and spice and everything nice" or "snips and snails and puppy dog tails", one thing is for sure...those pages of your little bundles of joy are some of the most fulfilling scrapbooking pages you will ever complete.  My children's baby albums were three of the first albums I ever started as a scrapbooker, but they are yet to be complete (I need to get a move on since my children are now 12, 7, and 5).  Why is that you ask?  Because I create so many baby layouts with the same photos that I never get any further.  At the rate I'm scrapping my kids baby albums, I may be lucky to finish them by the time they graduate from college.  After seeing all this baby inspiration it may even take me a little longer ...
